Information we collect

We collect information in three ways: what you give us, what we gather automatically as you browse, and what we receive from the services we use to run the shop.

Information you give us

• Order details — your name, shipping and billing address, email, and phone number when you check out.
• Payment information — card details are entered at checkout and processed by Shopify and its payment providers. We never see or store your full card number.
• Account & marketing — the email (and, if you opt in, mobile number) you give us for our monthly newsletter or order updates.
• Reviews & messages — anything you submit in a product review or send us by email.

Information we collect automatically

• Device & usage data — IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and how you arrived at the site, collected through cookies and similar technologies (see Cookies & tracking).
• Shopping activity — items viewed and added to your cart, used to power the store and improve it.

Information from third parties

We may receive limited data from the partners listed below — for example, ad and analytics platforms that help us understand traffic, or our payment processor confirming a transaction.

How we use your information

• To process, fulfill, and deliver your orders.
• To send order confirmations, shipping updates, and respond to your questions.
• To send marketing — our newsletter and, if you opt in, SMS — about new scents, market dates, and small-batch drops. You can opt out at any time.
• To understand how the site is used and improve our products, marketing, and the shopping experience.
• To prevent fraud, secure the site, and meet our legal and tax obligations.

Cookies & tracking technologies

Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use them, along with similar technologies like pixels, to keep the store working and to understand and improve it.

• Essential cookies — set by our platform, Shopify, to remember your cart and enable secure checkout. The site can’t function without these.
• Analytics — Google Analytics 4 — helps us see which pages and products people engage with so we can improve the site. You can opt out with Google’s browser add-on.
• Advertising — Meta Pixel — lets us measure our Facebook and Instagram ads and show relevant products to people who’ve visited the site. You can manage ad preferences in your Meta account settings.
• Reviews — Judge.me — sets cookies to verify reviewers and display product ratings.

You can refuse non-essential cookies through your browser settings or our cookie controls where offered. Because using Meta Pixel may be considered “sharing” personal information for advertising under some U.S. state laws, see Your privacy rights for how to opt out.

How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it only with the service providers that help us run the business, and only as needed:

• Shopify — our e-commerce platform and payment processing, which hosts the store and handles checkout.
• Klaviyo — our email and SMS marketing platform.
• Judge.me — our product review platform.
• Google & Meta — analytics and advertising, as described above.
• Shipping & fulfillment partners — to deliver your order.
• Legal & safety — when required by law, or to protect our rights, customers, and business.

Your privacy rights & choices

Marketing opt-out

You can unsubscribe from our emails using the link at the bottom of any message, and stop SMS messages by replying STOP. Opting out of marketing doesn’t affect transactional messages like order and shipping confirmations.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

If you’re a California resident (or in a state with similar law), you have the right to opt out of the “sharing” of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising — for us, that’s the Meta Pixel. To opt out, email us at hello@rootedcandle.com, or enable a Global Privacy Control signal in your browser, which we honor.

Access, correction & deletion

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, or object to certain uses. To make a request, email us at hello@rootedcandle.com. We’ll verify your request and respond within the time required by law. We won’t discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as needed to fulfill orders, provide support, comply with our legal and tax obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When it’s no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.

Security

Payments are encrypted in transit and handled by Shopify’s PCI-compliant systems. No method of transmission or storage is ever perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Children’s privacy

Our store isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our business or the law changes. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes we’ll provide a more prominent notice.
